Work Study

Federal Work Study

Federal work study encourages part-time employment related to a student’s course of study and/or career interests as well as community service while pursuing a post-secondary education. Students must demonstrate financial need from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for this program. Some of the benefits include:
  • Gaining desirable skills and valuable work experience
  • Acquiring professional references for your resume
  • Making contacts in your local community and/or at Granite State College
  • Flexible hours and scheduling
  • An opportunity to meet Granite State College Staff and gain exposure in your community

Federal Work Study awards are based on availability from an annual federal allocation and Granite State College cannot guarantee every eligible student will be able to earn a work study award.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for Granite State College Work Study, students must:
  • Be admitted to a Granite State College degree or post-baccalaureate program
  • Have a valid FAFSA for the current financial aid year
  • Have financial need from the FAFSA
  • Make Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Be enrolled at least half time during employment

Community Service

Community service is a valuable component of the federal work study program. Granite State College has worked with various non-profit organizations, like child care centers and alternative school settings, to provide important and meaningful services to communities across the state. Service may include such fields as health care, literacy training, education (including tutorial services), welfare, social services transportation, housing and neighborhood improvement, public safety, crime prevention and control, recreation, rural development, community improvement and emergency preparedness and response.

The benefit for employers is an advantageous reimbursement of the employee's pay. Positions in community service programs may be eligible for 100% funding. All off-campus employers must be interviewed and have a work study agreement on file. If you are an employer interested in partnering with Granite State College, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at (603) 513-1392.
